How to Make a Yeat Style Cocoon Cover From Any Photo

The cocoon look on Yeat style covers is a black silhouette of the subject against a soft white falloff that follows the depth of the room. You can get it from a single photo with the Depth Map effect in the photo editor. No masking and no layers.

What you need

• A photo with good separation between the subject and the background. Side profiles and faces looking up work best.
• The photo editor.

Steps

1. Open the photo editor with Depth Map and upload your photo.
2. Turn on Show Depth Map and Invert.
3. Set Gamma to around 1.5 and turn Parallax 3D off.
4. Export as JPG or PNG.

The depth pass runs on upload. When it finishes, the preview switches to a grayscale depth map.

2. Dial in the look

• Show Depth Map: on.
• Invert: on. The foreground goes black and the background goes white, which gives you the silhouette.
• Gamma: start at 1.5. Push it up to darken the midtones and tighten the white around the edges. Pull it down for a flatter, brighter frame.
• Bands: leave at 1.
• Parallax 3D: off. It only matters for motion.

You want a clean black edge on the face and shoulders with the white falling off behind it.

3. Export

Under Export for, pick Original, or IG Feed 1:1 for a square cover. Export PNG if you still need to add type, JPG if you are done.

Does it work with phone photos?

Yes. Sharp focus and a subject standing away from the wall give the cleanest edge.

The edges of the silhouette are rough. What do I change?

Use a shot with more distance between the subject and the background, so the depth pass can separate them cleanly.

Can I do this on video?

Yes. Depth Map is in the video tools too, and the silhouette tracks the subject frame to frame.
