Blob Tracker + Night Vision + Y2K: New Wave Visuals
The Blob Tracker detects motion and draws overlays. Combine it with other effects and the overlays blend into the applied effect's aesthetic. Open each effect on its own page, Night Vision, Y2K, Opium, and apply Blob Tracker as a layer. This guide covers three specific combos, each with tested values.
How to Stack Effects
Open the effect you want as the base layer, load your clip, adjust settings, and layer the next effect on top. Render order follows the stack, the first effect processes the image, the next processes that result, and so on. Blob Tracker works best as the last layer so its overlays draw on top of the already-processed image.
Blob Tracker + Night Vision
Night Vision converts the image to amplified monochrome green with noise and scan lines. Blob Tracker on top gives a military surveillance camera feel where movement is being actively tracked.
Night Vision Settings
- Tint: green (classic) or white (thermal infrared)
- Noise: 0.4, enough grain for the amplified look without drowning the overlays
- Scan Lines: 4–5, the sweep lines reinforce the monitor look
- Vignette: 0.7, dark edges, focus pulled to center
- Brightness: 2.0, the light amplification typical of night vision
Blob Tracker Settings
- Style: Frame or Scope, the most military
- Colour: #00ff00 (green) to stay in the palette, or #ffffff (white) to pop off the green background
- Threshold: 30, Night Vision noise can trigger false positives at lower thresholds
- Min Size: 120, filters small artefacts caused by the grain
- Trail: 2, short trail, tracking stays responsive
- Labels: ON, size data visible, reinforces the analytical feel
- Connections: ON, range 3
Blob Tracker + Y2K (Low Glare)
Y2K applies glare, contrast, desaturation and grain. With glare set low, the image keeps a washed silver look without losing readability. Blob Tracker overlays cut through the desaturated wash.
Y2K Settings
- Glare: 0.15–0.25, just enough to soften highlights without veiling the image
- Contrast: 1.8, high contrast, shadows fall hard
- Desaturation: 0.8, near-monochrome, residual tones barely visible
- Bloom: 0.2, subtle bloom around light sources
- Grain: 0.10, present texture without taking over
- Timestamp: OFF
Blob Tracker Settings
- Style: L-Frame or Dash, graphic and contemporary, complements the Y2K aesthetic
- Colour: #ffffff, white pops on the desaturated image
- Stroke: 1.5
- Threshold: 25
- Min Size: 80
- Trail: 5, medium trails, silver ghosts linger in the washed image
- Fill Opacity: 0.05, barely-there fill, just a veil
- Connections: OFF, keep it clean
The Full Trio: Night Vision + Y2K + Blob Tracker
Stack all three. Night Vision first (amplified monochrome base), Y2K second (glare and desaturation process the Night Vision output), Blob Tracker last (overlays on top of everything).
Combined Settings
- Night Vision: tint white, noise 0.25, scan lines 3, vignette 0.5, brightness 1.6
- Y2K: glare 0.20, contrast 1.6, desaturation 0.6, bloom 0.15, grain 0.08
- Blob Tracker: style Glow, colour #aaddff (pale blue), stroke 2, trail 8, fill 0.1, connections ON range 4, threshold 35, min size 100
The result: a bleached, amplified image with pale blue halos following the motion. Somewhere between experimental music video and video installation.
Blob Tracker + Opium
Opium stacks ghost trails with crushed blacks and warp. Blob Tracker overlays sit on top of the ghosts and mark the motion inside the haze.
Opium Settings
- Trail Intensity: 0.88, dense ghosts
- Contrast: 1.5
- Black Crush: 40, deep shadows
- Warp: 0.15, light distortion
- Grain: 0.2
- Haze: 0.10
Blob Tracker Settings
- Style: Glow, halos blend into Opium's atmosphere
- Colour: #ff0066 (magenta) or #00ffcc (turquoise), vivid colours that cut through the crushed blacks
- Trail: 15, blob trails mix with Opium's ghosts
- Fill Opacity: 0.15
- Threshold: 20, sensitive, catches motion even in dark zones
- Min Size: 60
- Connections: ON, range 5, lines stretching across the image through the haze
