The Depth Map tool reads how far each pixel in your clip is from the camera, then lets three effects treat foreground and background differently. No upload, no server.
When you load a clip, depth estimation runs across the footage. The whole pass takes 5–15 seconds depending on length and hardware. A progress bar tracks it.
Depth is a grayscale read: bright pixels are far away, dark pixels are close. Every sub-effect reads from it to decide how to treat each pixel.
Shifts background pixels more than foreground pixels, giving the read that the camera is slowly rocking or orbiting around the subject.
Works best on footage with a clear subject against a background: interviews, street shots, product shots.
Blurs based on distance from a focus plane. Pixels at the focus distance stay sharp. Everything else blurs.
Blends distant pixels toward a fog colour. Close objects stay clear; distant objects fade into atmosphere.
The effects apply in order: Parallax, then DOF, then Fog. Start with a subtle parallax sway, a small focus distance with moderate blur, and a light white fog. From there, push whichever axis fits your footage.
Before export, the tool runs the depth pass at full resolution for sharper edges. Adds a few seconds to prep.
