Sound Design Editor: Three Ways to Score a Clip

Sound Design Editor has three tools doing the heavy lifting. Each one solves a different part of the problem.

Auto-Generate

Drops cinematic SFX markers on the obvious moments. Listens for hits and beats, watches for white flashes and hard cuts, estimates tempo, fills in with whooshes on the downbeat grid. The result lands on an editable timeline with a shutter, impact, whoosh or sub already chosen per marker.

Hit AUTO GENERATE. Density default is medium, about 10 to 15 markers per minute. Switch to dense for rhythmic clips, sparse for dialogue-heavy footage. The top-scored moments get a second-pass refinement; the rest stay first-pass.

Waveform Editor

The clip's audio sits as a live waveform inside the panel. Each marker rides as a coloured pill on the strip below: pink shutter, red black-cut, green whoosh, amber custom. Drag a pill to retime. Click the waveform to seek the preview. Scrub to find a beat the auto-pass missed, add a marker by hand, drag it until it locks.

Selected markers get a white outline and a bright stem. Hover shows the second at the cursor. If the clip has no audio, the strip stays empty and cut / flash detection carries the placement on its own.

Custom Sound Upload

The sound picker has an UPLOAD tab next to the bundled categories. Drop any audio from your machine (MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or AAC, up to 10 MB). It shows up in the list, plays the same as the curated pack, works with the mixer and the export path without changes.

Uploaded sounds live in your session. Persistence behind a sign-in lands next. Use this for a signature transition, a recorded foley hit, or a voice sample that should fire with a marker.

Audio QC Panel

Below the markers sits a broadcast-grade loudness meter: Integrated LUFS, True Peak, Short-Term Max, PLR. Platform target chips for YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, EBU R128 and Cinema. A balance card flags the SFX bed if it runs more than 6 LU louder than the dialogue.

Targets to aim for: −14 LUFS for YouTube and Spotify, −16 for Apple Music, −23 for broadcast. Keep True Peak at or under −1 dBTP on every platform.
